🏆 iGC Final Verdict

⚡ R36S Wins — Clear and Decisive

The R36S beats the RG35XX on almost every metric: dual analog sticks, 5x more games, WiFi, RetroAchievements, better PS1/N64 compatibility, and higher buyer ratings. For $20 more, the R36S is a dramatically better device.

The only reason to choose the RG35XX is if your budget is strictly under $65 and you only plan to play 2D games (GBA, SNES, NES). In that narrow scenario, the RG35XX is adequate. For everyone else, the R36S is the obvious choice.

iGC recommendation: Save the extra $20 and get the R36S. You will not regret it. The dual analog sticks alone are worth the price difference for any buyer who wants PS1 or N64 games.

❓ R36S vs RG35XX FAQ

Is the R36S better than the RG35XX?

Yes, clearly. The R36S has dual analog sticks (RG35XX has none), 15,000+ pre-loaded games (vs ~3,000), built-in WiFi (RG35XX has no WiFi), better PS1 and N64 compatibility, and a higher buyer rating (4.70★ vs 4.50★). For $20 more, the R36S is a significantly better device in almost every way.

Does the RG35XX have analog sticks?

No. The RG35XX does not have analog sticks. This means it cannot play PS1 3D games or N64 games properly. Games like Metal Gear Solid, Crash Bandicoot, Mario 64, and GoldenEye require analog sticks for proper control. The R36S has dual analog sticks and can play all of these games correctly.

Does the RG35XX have WiFi?

No. The RG35XX does not have built-in WiFi. This means no RetroAchievements, no online leaderboards, and no OTA system updates. The R36S has built-in 2.4GHz WiFi and supports RetroAchievements, online features, and system updates.

Which is better for GBA games — R36S or RG35XX?

Both run GBA games at 100% compatibility and 60fps. For pure GBA gaming, both devices are equal in performance. The R36S has more GBA games pre-loaded (2,000+ vs 1,500+) and a larger screen library. If GBA is your only priority and budget is tight, the RG35XX is adequate — but the R36S is still the better overall value.
