TRIMUI Model S vs Miyoo Mini Plus · format before capacity

Choose the handheld you want to use before paying for the card tier.

For a first compact D-pad handheld, start by considering the Miyoo Mini Plus if you want a vertical body and a source-listed 3.5-inch display. Choose TRIMUI Model S when its deliberately tiny horizontal format is the point, and you have established that its source-listed two-inch view suits your games. The selected no-card offers are $109.99 and $99.99 respectively. That $10 difference is worth examining before you spend more on storage for a body you do not really want.

Neither no-card label promises a prepared first session. Confirm compatible card preparation and your important games. A larger card cannot enlarge a screen, change the grip or create analog controls.

1. The short decision

Consider Mini Plus first

You want a compact vertical device, often read menus or dialogue, and do not specifically want the smallest pictured body. Its larger source-listed diagonal is a reason to investigate readability, not proof that every game will be easier to read.

Choose Model S deliberately

You want a slim horizontal device for familiar D-pad-oriented games, and its small display is acceptable. The carrying format is the attraction. Do not buy a higher card tier hoping it will solve a screen-size concern.

If a particular game, readable interface, analog input or effortless gift setup is essential and remains unresolved, wait. Keeping a working device is also a valid outcome.

Editorial illustration of a clear-front red-edged TRIMUI Model S held in one hand
Reused Model S editorial illustration. The transparent-front horizontal layout is the subject; the imagined battle scene and hand are not gameplay, measured scale or grip evidence. Use the linked product references for original physical detail.

2. The useful crossover: Model S 32G costs more than Mini Plus No Card

At the selected URLs, Model S with the exact 32G label is $119.99. Mini Plus with No Card(0 Games) is $109.99. That makes the Model S selection $10 more expensive, even though Model S has the lower entry price. A buyer can cross the other device's starting price without having chosen the other device's format.

This is not a recommendation to trade a confirmed working package for an unprepared console. It is a checkpoint: if you were adding storage to Model S while wishing for a different body, stop and compare complete ownership costs first. The Mini Plus route may still require a compatible card, preparation and other items. Those costs are not established by the $109.99 label.

Make two separate decisions. First identify the body and display you want. Then identify the least expensive verified setup that does what you need on that body. Reversing that order can turn an optional card upgrade into a substitute for an unresolved device choice.

3. Exact selected-offer prices

These are USD product prices checked October 19, 2026, before destination-dependent checkout charges. The rows compare whole selected offers, not identical contents, tested cards or isolated component costs.

Selection TRIMUI Model S Miyoo Mini Plus Mini Plus minus Model S
No-card entry NO Card · $99.99 No Card(0 Games) · $109.99 +$10
32G-labelled 32G · $119.99 32G(9K Games) · $149.99 +$30
64G-labelled 64G · $129.99 64G(15K Games) · $159.99 +$30
128G-labelled No corresponding choice in this offer 128G(25K Games) · $189.99 No matched row

The difference is not always $10. It is $10 at the selected no-card entries and $30 at the two shared capacity labels. “Shared label” does not establish equal card quality, firmware, preparation, accessories or usable space. Parenthetical game counts are quoted selector names, not audited supplied libraries.

Within Model S, NO Card to 32G adds $20; 32G to 64G adds $10. Within Mini Plus, the respective steps are $40 and $10, followed by $30 from 64G to 128G. None is a processor upgrade.

4. Horizontal thinness and vertical familiarity are different benefits

Model S puts the directional controls and face buttons on opposite sides of the display. Mini Plus puts its main controls beneath the display. Both reference layouts use a D-pad and face buttons without analog sticks. The shape choice is therefore not simply “small versus large”: it also changes where the screen sits relative to your thumbs.

A horizontal body may appeal when you want a wide, shallow object with separated control areas. A vertical body may appeal when you want the familiar screen-above-controls arrangement. Neither observation establishes comfort for your hands. Finger reach, shoulder access and the way you support the bottom edge deserve a real check if you have a strong grip preference.

For a collector, transparent electronics and the Model S design may be sufficient positive reasons to choose it. For a first everyday device, a preferred playing position matters more than saving $10 on a shape you already doubt. Do not confuse a deliberately specialized purchase with a universally better purchase.

5. Readability: investigate the task, not only the diagonal

The Model S product description attributes a two-inch IPS display and 320×240 specification to its historical source. The selected Mini Plus description attributes a 3.5-inch IPS display to its own historical table. These are listing-source statements, not measurements of current selected stock. We do not borrow a pixel grid for Mini Plus from a different URL or calculate a guaranteed text-size advantage.

For a familiar falling-block game, you may mainly need the next piece, the playfield and a small amount of status information. For a story game, you may repeatedly read dialogue, inventory names and menu choices. Those tasks can make the same small screen feel very different. A colorful screenshot does not settle either task.

Check a representative moving scene and the smallest text you actually need. Use a normal viewing distance, not a magnified marketing image. If you cannot comfortably read the intended material on Model S, its 64G option will not help. If Mini Plus also fails your requirement, the right comparison is a different display, not its largest card.

6. Match the controls to your favorites

Start with one game you return to, not a headline platform list. Identify its directional input, face buttons, shoulder functions, text requirements and save behavior. A game designed around a digital D-pad is a more natural starting question for these pictured layouts than a game requiring two analog sticks.

Model S source material lists classic categories including FC, SFC, GB, GBC, GBA, arcade and PS. Mini Plus historical copy names GBA, SNES and PS1. Those references identify areas to investigate. They do not establish that every title runs well, that every controller function is available, or that a specific commercial title is supplied.

For an action favorite, investigate movement, sound and mapping during play. For an RPG, add dialogue, menus and saving. For an arcade title, establish the required files and emulator. More card space cannot fix a missing input or an unsupported software configuration. This guide assigns no benchmark winner because it contains no paired hardware test.

7. No card is a preparation choice, not a failure or a ready-to-play promise

Model S's entry is named NO Card. Mini Plus's entry is named No Card(0 Games). Preserve that difference when ordering. Neither label tells you everything about the installed operating environment, compatible card image, required files or first boot.

No-card ownership can be sensible for someone who already understands the correct device-specific workflow and wants to maintain a focused collection. Establish the actual hardware revision, supported instructions, compatible card and recovery path before buying supplies. A familiar card from a different handheld is not automatically interchangeable.

A prepared-card tier can be useful when its actual contents and boot behavior meet your needs. Ask what preparation has been performed and what is included rather than assuming the price buys a particular service. The decision is between verified ownership workflows, not between “enthusiast” and “beginner” labels attached to a storage number.

8. Keep firmware and wireless expectations separate

The selected Model S source refers to an open-source/TRIM-UI environment without confirming a current installed version. The selected Mini Plus description uses historical Linux-based system information without establishing OnionOS on every offered configuration. Choose on supported facts, not an assumed community-firmware badge.

Mini Plus's historical no-card note says its basic environment could not enable Wi-Fi. That is a software-environment statement, not proof that no-card hardware lacks a radio. It also does not prove that every card-labelled choice delivers a particular online function. If wireless file transfer or another feature matters, confirm that exact workflow on the selected setup.

Model S does not inherit Mini Plus's wireless expectations, and Mini Plus does not inherit another Miyoo offer's supplied software. No external community installation procedure is reproduced here. Use current model-specific instructions rather than treating this purchase comparison as a flashing tutorial.

9. What extra capacity can and cannot buy

A larger usable card can make room for more compatible files. Whether you need that space depends on your actual collection, system files and backup strategy. The printed capacity is not all necessarily free for games, and no usable-space measurements accompany this comparison.

For Model S, an older source describes expansion up to 32G while the live selected offer includes 64G. Confirm the actual compatible card and firmware arrangement before relying on that 64G selection. We do not silently delete the live option or declare the old graphic a current universal ceiling.

For Mini Plus, 9K, 15K and 25K appear inside the selector names. They are not a verified count of unique, working or authorized titles. Choose a tier because its confirmed setup and space serve your collection, not because a bigger number appears to promise more enjoyment. Keep a recoverable copy of important saves regardless of tier.

10. All color and card choices at these two URLs

Each row below covers every card choice for that color. Model S has 12 combinations; Mini Plus has 16. There is no color surcharge within either selected offer at the same tier. Other store URLs for the same model may differ and are not merged into these prices.

Grey $109.99 $149.99 $159.99 $189.99

Model S references show a clear front with colored rear/edge treatments; do not assume a color label means a fully opaque front. Mini Plus finish should likewise be confirmed for the selected color. Illustrations of one color do not document every current variant, its materials or its exact carton.

11. Different buyers, different sensible choices

The small-device enthusiast

You already know you enjoy tiny controls and brief familiar-game routines. Model S can be the purposeful choice, even if Mini Plus costs only $10 more at entry. The object you actually want matters more than maximizing a specification per dollar.

The dialogue-focused first buyer

You expect frequent reading and have no special need for the thin horizontal format. Investigate Mini Plus first, checking actual text and grip. Start with its entry workflow before assuming you need 128G.

The gift buyer

The recipient's preferred shape and ability to manage setup take priority. A confirmed working first session matters more than a large library label. Arrange the preparation and actual contents before committing to a fixed-date gift.

The satisfied existing owner

Your current device already reads well, plays your favorites and travels comfortably. Neither comparison price creates a need to replace it. A second device should solve a genuine format or ownership problem.

These are decision examples, not user studies, comfort measurements or claims about which audience buys most often.

12. Carrying, protection and the complete first session

The Model S description attributes 105×55×9.5mm and no more than 80g to source artwork. The Mini Plus description quotes historical dimensions of 108×78.5×22.3mm and 162g. Those attributed figures explain why thinness is worth investigating; they are not independently measured current-stock dimensions or a guarantee of pocket fit.

Consider where the device will actually live: a particular pocket, a small bag compartment or your desk. Include protection rather than comparing bare devices alone. A required case can change the carrying decision, and a case is not automatically included because a listing has a Bundle field.

Before a trip, establish readable play, supported saving, a backed-up working setup and charging according to the actual instructions. No fixed runtime, fast-charging feature or all-day travel promise is supplied here. When carrying convenience and screen use conflict, choose the compromise you will accept every day, not the smallest dimension in isolation.

13. What belongs in the ownership budget?

Compare the device selection, any required compatible card, the preparation you will perform or receive, protection you need, and the actual checkout total. Do not price these missing items from assumptions. A no-card sticker is not automatically the cheaper completed route, just as a prepared label is not automatically effortless.

Historical Model S packing material names a console, manual, card and cable, but that generic reference cannot override NO Card. Historical Mini Plus lists name optional storage and items such as cable, reader, manual and protector; this is not a verified current pack list for all 16 choices. Confirm the selected package rather than transferring another offer's extras.

A wall adapter, protective case or a particular branded card is not promised by this comparison. If a verified prepared route saves work you genuinely do not want to do, it can be worth considering. If the preparation is unclear, spending more does not resolve the uncertainty by itself.

14. Six steps to a confident selection

  1. Name the intended session. Identify a familiar game or type of play, the text you must read and the controls you use.
  2. Choose the body. Decide whether tiny horizontal carrying or screen-above-controls playing is the positive reason for this purchase.
  3. Check the real viewing task. Look at representative moving play and small menus at an ordinary distance. Do not infer comfort from editorial artwork.
  4. Select the setup workflow. Establish no-card preparation or the contents and behavior of a card-labelled offer, including the Model S 64G conflict where relevant.
  5. Compare complete costs. Use the exact linked URL, color and Bundle label. Add only known required items and actual checkout charges.
  6. Keep a stopping rule. If your essential requirement remains unsupported, wait or keep your present device rather than buying a larger card as reassurance.

This is a buying process, not a claim that we performed those steps on every current unit.

15. Sources and limits

This guide uses the two selected product descriptions, their complete color/Bundle price connections and current reference imagery. Product prices and selector names are catalog facts as checked on the date above. Hardware, size and older software statements are attributed listing information. No paired hardware, measured readability, frame-rate, battery, durability or current package test was performed for this article.

The Mini Plus and Model S pictures in this body are reused generated editorial illustrations, not photographs of inspected stock. Their screen artwork is not a title manifest, licensed-content audit or compatibility test. Refer to original product references for precise physical marks and confirm the selected unit when those details matter.

For a different screen-shape question, the separate R36MAX versus Miyoo Mini Plus picture-fit guide examines another decision. For the GBA-oriented alternative, see the V10 versus Model S guide. Neither transfers another offer's specifications or package to the two URLs used here.

16. Buyer FAQ

Which should I consider first as a first compact handheld?

Investigate Mini Plus first if you want a vertical body and a larger source-listed viewing diagonal, without a specific need for Model S's tiny horizontal format. Choose Model S deliberately for that format after checking readability and controls. Neither is a universal recommendation.

Is Mini Plus only $10 more?

At the selected no-card entries, yes: $109.99 versus $99.99. At the 32G-labelled and 64G-labelled tiers it is $30 more. These are whole-offer differences, not prices for equivalent contents or individual components.

Why compare Model S 32G with Mini Plus No Card?

Model S 32G is $119.99, above Mini Plus's $109.99 starting selection. This is a useful reminder to choose the desired body before optional storage. It does not establish equivalent preparation or make the no-card route cheaper after every required item.

Does a larger Mini Plus display guarantee better reading?

No. Its historical source lists 3.5 inches versus Model S's two inches, but actual text depends on the panel, game, software and viewing distance. Check the smallest text you need. No measured readability score or Mini Plus pixel grid is claimed.

Will either accept my existing handheld's card?

Do not assume so. Card images, file layout, hardware revision and software requirements can differ. Establish the correct workflow for the actual selected device before copying or changing anything, and retain a recoverable backup of important data.

Does Mini Plus arrive with OnionOS?

This selected offer does not establish a current named firmware on every option. Historical Linux-based wording and a title keyword are not a selected-unit installation check. Confirm the actual supplied setup and version if that affects your choice.

Why does Model S 64G need confirmation?

The current offer includes 64G, while an older source describes expansion up to 32G. Confirm the actual compatible card and firmware arrangement. Neither the live label nor the older artwork alone settles every current-unit configuration.

Are the game numbers verified contents?

No. Mini Plus's 9K, 15K and 25K appear in exact selector names. They are not audited unique-title counts, guaranteed performance or proof of game inclusion rights. Confirm actual contents and use files you are entitled to use.

Do the no-card versions lack all software or wireless hardware?

Neither conclusion follows from the label. First-boot and card dependencies need configuration-specific confirmation. Mini Plus's historical no-card Wi-Fi warning concerns its basic software environment, not proof of different radio hardware.

Which is better for a gift?

The one whose shape, readability and verified first-session setup suit the recipient. Confirm the selected contents and preparation rather than relying on a card number. Neither a no-card selection nor a prepared-card name is an automatic ready-to-play guarantee.

Does color affect price or performance?

Within each selected offer, the same card tier has the same current price across its four colors. No processor or performance upgrade is established by color. Confirm the actual finish; one illustration does not verify every available shell.

When should I buy neither?

When the essential game, input, readable display or preparation requirement remains unresolved, or when your current device already meets the need. More storage is not a substitute for the right body and a supported working setup.

Final verdict: buy the format, then the setup

Mini Plus is the first route to investigate for the buyer who wants a compact vertical device and has not deliberately chosen a two-inch playing view. Begin with its $109.99 No Card(0 Games) workflow only if you understand the preparation, then consider confirmed card-labelled options according to need.

Model S is the purposeful thin-horizontal choice, starting at $99.99 NO Card. Its design can be the reason to buy, not a compromise to explain away. Keep it when that format is what you want; reconsider it when you are spending on storage while wishing for a different viewing experience.
