🏆 iGC Final Verdict

✅ Yes — The R36S Is Worth It in 2026

After 30 days of daily testing, the answer is clear: the R36S is worth buying in 2026 — for the right person. If you want to play retro games (NES, SNES, GBA, PS1, N64) on a portable device for under $100, there is no better option. The 15,000+ pre-loaded games, dual analog sticks, 3.5" IPS screen, and zero-setup experience make it the best value in retro gaming.

The R36S earns its 4.70★ rating from 2,837 buyers. It is not a premium device — the plastic build and average speaker are real limitations. But at $79.99, it delivers exactly what it promises: a complete retro gaming library in your pocket, ready to play in under 5 minutes. iGC score: 9.2/10.

❓ Is the R36S Worth It? FAQ

Is the R36S worth buying in 2026?

Yes — for retro gaming under $100, the R36S is the best value device in 2026. It scores 9.2/10 in iGC's 30-day lab test. 15,000+ games pre-loaded, zero setup, 4.70★ from 2,837 buyers. The only reason not to buy it: if you want modern games (PS4/PC) or premium build quality.

What are the downsides of the R36S?

Honest downsides: plastic build quality (not premium), PSP compatibility at only 78%, no WiFi or online features, battery not user-replaceable, average speaker quality. The R36S cannot play modern games (PS4, Xbox, PC). For retro gaming (NES/SNES/GBA/PS1/N64), these limitations are minor. For modern gaming, they are dealbreakers.

How does the R36S compare to more expensive handhelds?

For retro gaming specifically, the R36S performs at the same level as devices costing 2-5x more. GBA, SNES, and PS1 games run identically on the R36S ($79.99) and the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 ($219). The difference is build quality, screen size, and modern game support. If you only want retro games, the R36S is the smart choice.
