RETROID ANDROID MID — 5.5” IPS · $239.99
BLACK / WHITE / PANSY · N64 / PSP / DS CAPABLE

Retroid Android Mid · 5.5” IPS · Android · WiFi · Google Play · N64 / PSP / DS capable · GBA / SNES / PS1 full 60fps · Moonlight streaming · Black / White / Pansy (violet) · $239.99 · Retroid brand · The iGC catalog’s Android entry point — the first step above the Linux tier into Android capabilities
→ This Retroid device at $239.99 occupies the critical gap in the iGC Android catalog: it is the Android entry point. The entire iGC Linux tier (R36S $79.99, G350 $87.99, RG40XX $179.99, AYANEO Pocket $333.99) runs Linux — capable on GBA/SNES/PS1, incapable of PSP, incapable of DS, incapable of PS2, and constrained by the Linux platform’s offline-only ecosystem. This Retroid at $239.99 breaks through the Linux ceiling: Android means WiFi is native and full-ecosystem (Google Play, not just a hardware WiFi chip on Linux); Android means PSP emulation via PPSSPP is available; Android means DS emulation via DraStic and melonDS is available; Android means Moonlight streaming from a gaming PC is available; Android means the Google Play library (Netflix, YouTube, Spotify, additional emulators) is available. The $60 premium over the AYANEO Pocket ($333.99 minus $239.99 is actually $94 less than AYANEO) — at $239.99, this is the lowest-price Android handheld in the iGC catalog, sitting $420 below the RP5 ($779.99) and $420 below the Retroid Flip 2 ($659.99). It is the device for the buyer who has decided they need Android (for PSP, DS, or Google Play) but cannot justify the $659+ price of the Flip 2 or RP5. The Pansy colorway (violet/purple) is the iGC catalog’s most distinctive color in the Android tier: no other Android device in the iGC catalog offers purple. For the buyer whose color identity is purple — or whose primary system is GBA Pokemon (purple association via the Pokemon brand palette) — Pansy is the correct choice.

→ The $239.99 Retroid is the iGC catalog’s cheapest Android device — it sits $60 above the RG40XX (the WiFi Linux top) and $420 below the Retroid Flip 2 (the next Android device in the catalog) · The $60 step from the RG40XX to this Retroid buys: Android platform (PSP + DS access), Google Play Store, Moonlight streaming · The $420 step from this Retroid to the Flip 2 buys: clamshell form factor, Helio G99 SoC (heavier N64 and lite PS2), larger battery · If PSP or DS is the deciding factor and clamshell is not needed: this $239.99 Retroid is the minimum spend to access those systems in the iGC catalog
◆ PANSY — THE iGC CATALOG’S ONLY PURPLE ANDROID HANDHELD · VIOLET IDENTITY · POKEMON/ZELDA COLOR MATCH
What is Pansy?
Pansy is Retroid’s name for a deep violet / purple shell color — named after the pansy flower’s characteristic deep purple-violet petals. In the iGC catalog, Pansy is the only purple colorway available on any Android handheld. The R36S is available in purple at the Linux tier ($79.99); no other Android device in the iGC catalog offers purple at any price.
Pokemon IPS Color Identity
The Pansy shell’s deep violet ambient creates the iGC catalog’s most distinctive IPS calibration scenario: GBA Pokemon FireRed’s Team Rocket purple uniforms, Gengar’s purple silhouette, and the Lavender Town ambient are the primary Pansy IPS verification content. The Pansy shell’s violet ambient must not create purple-channel bias that oversaturates Gengar’s purple or Lavender Town’s purple-gray palette.
Who Should Choose Pansy
Pokemon collector (purple = Pokemon brand identity color via Gengar, Team Rocket, Lavender Town) · Zelda collector (Twilight Princess’s purple-midnight palette) · Any buyer who wants the iGC Android catalog’s only purple device · The buyer who already owns a black or grey Linux device and wants a visually distinct Android device

PSP / DS collector?
PSP and DS emulation require Android — the Linux tier cannot run either system. This Retroid at $239.99 is the iGC catalog’s cheapest Android device that accesses PSP via PPSSPP and DS via DraStic / melonDS. PSP library on this device: Crisis Core FF VII (PPSSPP), God of War Chains of Olympus (PPSSPP), Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep (PPSSPP), Tekken 6, Persona 3 Portable. DS library: Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow + Portrait of Ruin (DraStic dual-screen), Pokemon Diamond / Pearl / Platinum / HeartGold / SoulSilver (DraStic), Zelda Phantom Hourglass + Spirit Tracks. The PSP library alone contains 1,000+ titles inaccessible on any Linux device; the DS adds 1,600+ titles. At $239.99, this is the minimum spend in the iGC catalog to access both libraries.
PSP + DS Entry →
Pansy / Purple identity?
Pansy is the iGC catalog’s only purple Android handheld. For the Pokemon collector: purple = Gengar, Team Rocket, Lavender Town — the three most emotionally loaded purple references in the Pokemon universe. For the Zelda collector: Twilight Princess’s midnight violet palette and the Shadow Realm ambient are the Zelda color identity that maps to Pansy. For the buyer who already has a grey or black device in the Linux tier and wants a visually distinct Android second device: Pansy provides the clearest visual separation. The iGC Stage 01 Pansy IPS protocol: GBA Pokemon FireRed Lavender Town + Gengar battle — the Pansy shell’s violet ambient is the most demanding IPS calibration in the iGC Android catalog because purple is the shell color and purple appears throughout the primary verification game (Pokemon FireRed) as a major palette color.

Android ecosystem entry?
Every Linux device in the iGC catalog (R36S, G350, RG40XX, AYANEO Pocket) is offline-only at the platform level — no Google Play, no Android apps, no Moonlight, no Chiaki. This Retroid at $239.99 is the iGC catalog’s cheapest gateway to the full Android ecosystem: Google Play Store (any Android app installable), Moonlight game streaming from a GeForce PC over local WiFi, Chiaki PS5 Remote Play, Netflix / YouTube / Spotify, and all emulators available on the Play Store with automatic updates. If the buyer has a gaming PC with GeForce card: Moonlight on this Retroid streams any PC game to the 5.5” IPS display. If the buyer has a PS5: Chiaki streams PS5 games to this device over local WiFi. The $239.99 entry price for this Android ecosystem access is $420 less than the next Android option (Retroid Flip 2 at $659.99).

Feature 01
PSP via PPSSPP · DS via DraStic / melonDS · N64 Capable · GBA/SNES/PS1 60fps · Android Platform Unlocks Systems Linux Cannot Run

The Android platform on this Retroid unlocks the two systems that define the PSP/DS era and are inaccessible on every Linux device in the iGC catalog. PSP: PPSSPP on Android provides full-speed emulation on the better PSP titles — Crisis Core FF VII (mission mode and story 60fps on the Retroid’s SoC), God of War Chains of Olympus (60fps on lighter areas), Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep (60fps on Destiny Islands and Sleeping Beauty’s Castle), Tekken 6 Scenario Campaign, Persona 3 Portable (full RPG, 60fps confirmed), Lumines (music sync verified). Note: heavier PSP titles (God of War Ghost of Sparta boss fights, Dante’s Inferno arena combat) may run below 60fps at this mid-tier SoC — the honest assessment is that PPSSPP on this Retroid covers the majority of the commercially important PSP library at acceptable fps, with the RP5 ($779.99 Dimensity 900) providing locked 60fps on the full PSP library including the heaviest titles. DS: DraStic and melonDS on Android provide dual-screen DS emulation — the 5.5” IPS displays both DS screens simultaneously (top and bottom) in DraStic’s split-screen mode. Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, Order of Ecclesia: all three DS Castlevania titles at full speed. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum/HeartGold/SoulSilver: full speed. Zelda Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks: full speed with touchscreen emulation via the 5.5” screen. N64: Mupen64Plus AE on Android provides N64 capability — lighter N64 titles (SM64, Mario Kart 64, OoT in lighter dungeons) at acceptable fps; the full heavy-N64 experience (OoT Water Temple locked 60fps, Banjo-Tooie, DK64) requires the RP5’s Dimensity 900.

📶
Feature 02
WiFi · Google Play Store · Moonlight PC Streaming · Chiaki PS5 Remote Play · Android Full Ecosystem · Netflix / YouTube

The full Android ecosystem on this Retroid at $239.99 provides every WiFi-dependent capability that the Linux tier cannot: Google Play Store (any Android app or game installable — additional emulators, RetroArch Android, standalone PPSSPP, Dolphin, streaming apps), Moonlight game streaming (requires GeForce GTX/RTX PC on local network; streams any PC game to the 5.5” IPS at the device’s supported resolution over local WiFi — the Retroid’s 5.5” IPS becomes the screen for any PC game in the buyer’s Steam / Epic library), Chiaki PS5 Remote Play (requires PS5 on local network; streams PS5 games to the Retroid over local WiFi — Spider-Man 2, FF XVI, Demon’s Souls remake, any PS5 title in the buyer’s library becomes portable), Netflix / YouTube / Spotify (Android APKs installable via Play Store for media consumption during non-gaming use). The Android ecosystem on this $239.99 Retroid is functionally identical to the Android ecosystem on the $779.99 RP5 at the app level — the same apps install on both. The difference is hardware performance: the RP5’s Dimensity 900 handles heavier workloads (PS2 at 60fps, Moonlight at higher resolution, GameCube lite) that the mid-tier SoC in this Retroid cannot.

Feature 03
5.5” IPS · Large Screen at $239.99 · DS Dual-Screen DraStic Optimized · GBA Integer Scale · SNES CRT Shader

The 5.5” IPS display on this Retroid at $239.99 is the same screen size as the RP5 ($779.99) — at $540 less. For the buyer whose primary use case is GBA/SNES/PS1/DS on a large handheld screen: the 5.5” IPS provides pixel-perfect integer scaling for GBA (the GBA’s 240×160 native resolution scales to 480×320 at 2×, fitting within the 5.5” panel’s display area with black borders), SNES (the SNES’s 256×224 native scales at 4× with CRT shader overlay on the 5.5” panel), and PS1 (240p PS1 output scales cleanly on the large panel). DS dual-screen via DraStic: on the 5.5” IPS, DraStic renders both the DS top screen (256×192) and bottom screen (256×192) simultaneously in split-screen mode, giving each screen approximately 2.5” equivalent at natural size — the 5.5” panel provides better DS dual-screen legibility than smaller handhelds (the RG40XX’s smaller display reduces DS screen legibility in split-screen mode). The 5.5” IPS at $239.99 is not a premium SoC investment — it is a screen real estate investment, appropriate for the buyer whose primary gaming happens at a desk or couch rather than commuting.

Feature 04

Every unit receives the iGC Stage 01-03 with color-specific and Android-specific additions. Stage 02: H2testw internal storage + MicroSD slot test + Android multi-system boot (GBA Pokemon FireRed 60fps; SNES DKC 60fps; PS1 SotN boot; PSP PPSSPP launch verify — Crisis Core title screen confirms PSP stack operational; DS DraStic launch verify — DraStic dual-screen mode confirms DS dual-screen rendering on the 5.5” IPS) + WiFi connect + Google Play Store launch. Android boot: cold boot to Android home under 35 seconds. Stage 03: 2h GBA Pokemon Emerald burn-in (Android RetroArch sustained) + post-burn IPS color-specific re-check + post-burn WiFi reconnect + post-burn Android cold boot under 35 seconds. 90-day warranty covers hardware + internal storage + preloaded library.

Feature 05
$239.99 · iGC Catalog’s Cheapest Android · $420 Below Retroid Flip 2 · The Minimum Spend for PSP + DS + Google Play in iGC

$239.99 is the iGC catalog’s Android entry price. The framing: this is the minimum spend in the iGC catalog to access PSP emulation (PPSSPP Android), DS emulation (DraStic/melonDS Android), Google Play Store, Moonlight streaming, and Chiaki PS5 Remote Play. Below $239.99, every iGC device is Linux-only — no PSP, no DS, no Google Play, no Moonlight. Above $239.99, the next Android device in the catalog is the Retroid Flip 2 at $659.99 ($420 more, clamshell form factor, Helio G99 with heavier N64 and lite PS2) and the RP5 at $779.99 ($540 more, Dimensity 900, PS2 60fps, Hall Effect). For the specific use case of PSP + DS + Android ecosystem on a 5.5” screen at the minimum possible price: $239.99 is the exact correct spend. For the buyer who also needs PS2 at 60fps: the RP5 at $779.99 is the correct device. For the buyer who needs clamshell: the Flip 2 at $659.99. For the buyer who only needs PSP + DS + Android at a 5.5” screen for GBA/SNES/DS primary use: this Retroid at $239.99 is the correct choice.

Feature 06
Retroid Brand · Android-First Handheld Specialist · Community Firmware · Reddit / Discord Ecosystem · Established Android Retro Platform

Retroid (Guangzhou Retroid Interactive, also known as Retroid Pocket) is the iGC catalog’s Android-first retro handheld specialist — the company that defined the Android retro handheld category with the original Retroid Pocket (2020) and Retroid Pocket 2/2+ (2021–2022). Unlike Linux handheld manufacturers that primarily ship Linux with optional Android, Retroid’s primary platform is Android: their devices ship with stock Android optimized for gaming rather than a custom Linux distribution, and the community ecosystem (r/retroid subreddit, Retroid Discord, RetroGameCorps YouTube channel) produces Android-specific firmware updates, configuration guides, and setup tutorials specifically for Retroid devices. This means: the iGC buyer of this Retroid can find RetroGameCorps YouTube tutorials for their specific device (RetroGameCorps produces the most-watched retro handheld setup guides in English, with dedicated Retroid device playlists), can get peer support in the r/retroid subreddit, and can access the Retroid community’s configuration recommendations for PPSSPP, DraStic, Mupen64Plus AE, and AetherSX2 on this specific SoC. The Retroid brand’s community infrastructure for Android retro gaming is the most developed of any Android device in the iGC catalog.

3-STAGE LAB VERIFICATION — RETROID ANDROID MID · 3-COLOR IPS + PANSY PURPLE-CHANNEL + ANDROID PSP + DS BOOT STANDARD

STAGE 01
5.5” IPS DEAD PIXEL FULL PANEL + 3-COLOR IPS (BLACK: SF II GLOW BLEED / WHITE: ZELDA OOT TEMPLE WHITE-CHANNEL / PANSY: POKEMON FIRERED LAVENDER TOWN + GENGAR PURPLE-CHANNEL) + BUTTON MATRIX + STICK DRIFT

Stage 01 Retroid Android Mid: (1) 5.5” IPS dead pixel full panel at native resolution, white-fill and black-fill, zero dead pixels. (2) 3-color IPS protocols: Black — SF II GBA max contrast + 5.5” IPS glow bleed check at all four panel corners (the glow bleed at 5.5” panel corners under pure black backgrounds is the primary IPS quality check for the Black shell, where the shell’s dark ambient must not suppress glow bleed visibility, potentially masking a substandard panel); White — N64 Zelda OoT Temple of Time white stone walls (the Temple of Time’s white/grey stone architecture is the standard white-channel IPS verify — the White shell’s bright ambient must not over-brighten the display’s white rendering, creating a false impression of higher brightness; the warm candlelight orange of the Master Sword dais against the white stone is the white-channel + color-temperature cross-verify); Pansy — GBA Pokemon FireRed Lavender Town ambient + Gengar battle: the Pansy shell’s deep violet is the most demanding IPS color-channel verify in the iGC Android catalog. The Lavender Town map’s grey-purple ambient (the Pokemon Tower’s exterior grey-purple stone at night) is the sustained purple-channel IPS environment; the Gengar encounter (Gengar’s pure purple silhouette sprite against the battle background) is the discrete purple-saturation verify. The Pansy shell ambient must not create purple-channel bias that oversaturates Gengar’s purple (making it appear more vivid than the GBA’s native 15-bit color palette output) or biases the Lavender Town purple-grey toward red or blue within the purple hue range. (3) Button matrix: ABXY 5 actuations, L1/R1/L2/R2, D-pad all 8 directions. (4) Stick drift both sticks all axes + center hold 30 seconds.

STAGE 02
H2testw INTERNAL + MICROSD + ANDROID MULTI-SYSTEM (GBA POKEMON FIRERED / SNES DKC / PS1 SOTN / PSP CRISIS CORE TITLE / DS DRASTIC DUAL-SCREEN) + WiFi + GOOGLE PLAY + ANDROID BOOT UNDER 35s

Stage 02 Retroid Android Mid: H2testw internal storage full surface zero bad sectors + MicroSD slot test. Android multi-system boot: (a) GBA Pokemon FireRed — Stage 02 primary, RetroArch Android mGBA core, 60fps confirm, Pallet Town palette verify; (b) SNES DKC World 1-1 60fps; (c) PS1 Castlevania SotN — boot verify, DuckStation Android, prologue audio; (d) PSP PPSSPP — Crisis Core FF VII title screen + logo animation 60fps (the Crisis Core opening logo animation is PPSSPP’s most commonly tested first-boot verify for PSP stack on Android: the spinning Crisis Core emblem uses hardware-accelerated rendering that confirms the PPSSPP Vulkan or OpenGL ES renderer is functional on the device’s SoC); (e) DS DraStic — DraStic dual-screen launch verify: launch Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow in DraStic, confirm both DS screens render simultaneously on the 5.5” IPS in split-screen mode (Stage 02 DS verify: the top DS screen showing the Castlevania castle map and the bottom DS screen showing the touch-based soul seal mechanic must both render at the correct DS native resolution within DraStic’s split-screen layout; the 5.5” panel’s dual-screen legibility is confirmed with both screens readable at natural scale). WiFi: connect to network, Google Play Store launch. Android cold boot: power off, cold boot, Android home within 35 seconds.

STAGE 03
2h GBA POKEMON EMERALD BURN-IN (ANDROID RETRO ARCH) + POST-BURN 5.5” IPS RE-CHECK (PANSY: GENGAR PURPLE / BLACK: SF II / WHITE: OOT TEMPLE) + POST-BURN WiFi + POST-BURN ANDROID COLD BOOT + 90-DAY WARRANTY

Stage 03 Retroid Android Mid: 2h GBA Pokemon Emerald burn-in on Android RetroArch mGBA. Emerald is selected for the same reason as other Linux/Android entry-tier devices: Hoenn region environments (sea routes, weather effects, Battle Frontier) produce slightly higher sustained rendering workloads than FireRed’s Kanto. The 2h burn verifies battery drain rate at sustained Android RetroArch load (the Android OS overhead on the Retroid’s SoC adds a small but measurable additional power draw over pure Linux RetroArch on the same SoC class; 2h Emerald at sustained Android load verifies the battery is within expected range at this overhead level) and IPS thermal stability at Android operating temperature. Post-burn 5.5” IPS re-check: color-specific spot-check per shell color (Pansy: Gengar battle purple-channel 30s verify — the most important post-burn check, as 2h thermal operation can marginally shift the IPS panel’s color temperature in the purple-to-blue range; the Gengar sprite must read at the same purple saturation as Stage 01; Black: SF II max contrast 30s; White: OoT Temple of Time white stone 30s). Post-burn WiFi: power off, cold boot, Android auto-reconnect to saved network within 30 seconds. Post-burn Android cold boot: under 35 seconds. 90-day warranty covers hardware + internal storage + preloaded library.

■ FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
This Retroid ($239.99) or the RP5 ($779.99) — how do I choose?
Choose this Retroid at $239.99 if: PSP and DS are your primary target systems and you do not need PS2. Choose the RP5 at $779.99 if: PS2 at 60fps is required (God of War 2, Shadow of the Colossus, FF X, Persona 4 — the RP5’s Dimensity 900 handles PS2 at 60fps; this Retroid’s mid-tier SoC cannot). Both devices run Android and have WiFi and Google Play — the platform difference is zero. The SoC difference is significant on PS2 and on the heaviest PSP titles: this Retroid handles Crisis Core and GoW Chains of Olympus well; GoW Ghost of Sparta and Dante’s Inferno are heavier and may drop fps. The RP5 handles the full PSP library at locked 60fps. For 95% of the PSP library and 100% of the DS library: this Retroid at $239.99 is the correct choice. For PS2, heavy PSP, or the top 5% of PSP demands: RP5 at $779.99.
What is Pansy and why is it special?
Pansy is Retroid’s name for a deep violet / purple shell color. It is special in the iGC catalog for one reason: it is the only purple colorway on any Android handheld in the iGC catalog. The R36S is available in purple at the Linux tier ($79.99), but no other Android device in the iGC catalog — not the AYANEO Pocket, not the Retroid Flip 2, not the RP5 — offers purple. If you are a Pokemon collector (Gengar, Team Rocket, Lavender Town are all purple), a Zelda collector (Twilight Princess midnight palette), or simply want your Android device to be visually distinct from every grey and black device in the category: Pansy is the correct choice. Performance is identical to Black and White — Pansy is purely a color preference decision.
Can I play Pokemon DS games on this device?
Yes. DS Pokemon games (Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver, Black, White, Black 2, White 2) all run at full speed on this device via DraStic or melonDS (Android). DraStic renders both DS screens simultaneously on the 5.5” IPS in split-screen mode: the top screen shows the game world and the bottom screen shows the menu / touch-input areas. The 5.5” display gives each DS screen adequate size for comfortable play — the top and bottom screens each occupy approximately 2.5” equivalent in DraStic’s default split-screen layout. DraStic also supports overlaying the bottom screen touch input via the 5.5” screen’s touchscreen functionality (the 5.5” IPS is a touch display on Android, so DS games that use the touch-based bottom screen — Castlevania soul seals, Zelda Phantom Hourglass map drawing — can be played via touch input). Save states and fast-forward are both available in DraStic.

iGameConsole Lab Direct Price — Retroid Android Mid Pansy · Compare at $329.99 $239.99

The $239.99 price positions this Retroid as the iGC Android entry point: the BOM at $148 reflects an Android mid-tier SoC (significantly more capable than Linux entry SoCs but below the Dimensity 900 in the RP5), the 5.5” IPS panel (same physical screen size as the RP5 at a lower resolution and color accuracy tier), and the Android OS licensing overhead that all Android devices carry vs. the open-source Linux. The $90 saving vs. the $329.99 compare-at represents the iGC direct-import efficiency on the Retroid mid-tier Android configuration.
