Join your friend's game, not an expensive misunderstanding.
Steam Remote Play Together can let you join a supported local-multiplayer game running on a friend's computer. The host owns and runs that game; your device receives the shared session and sends your controls. You are not installing the PC game on the handheld, borrowing an offline copy or automatically getting your own independent campaign.
Our buying recommendation: try the invitation with an existing compatible phone or computer and suitable controls first. Consider a dedicated handheld only after the actual guest session works and you know why integrated controls improve your evening. Pocket 2S is a conditional candidate, not a certified Remote Play Together device in this guide.
By iGameConsole Editorial Team. Offer records reviewed October 31, 2026. This is a purchase decision guide, not a measured latency test, an app-install tutorial or a successful-session demonstration.
The decision before the device
Your friend hosts; you join
Check the game's Remote Play Together support, guest app and actual second-player controls. A supported invitation is the starting point.
You want your own PC library away from the desk
That is personal remote streaming. Your own host and setup remain central. A friend's local-co-op invitation is not a replacement.
You want independent online progress
Check the game's native online mode and account model. Sharing one host's local session does not establish two separate online copies.
You want offline travel play
Choose a documented local-playing route. A network-dependent guest session does not become offline because the client fits in a bag.
What makes the remote invitation appealing?
The attraction is practical: a friend can invite you into an evening built around one supported local-multiplayer game instead of asking both people to arrange a full second PC installation. You might want a cooperative stage, a shared puzzle or a friendly competitive round. Start with the exact game and mode you both want, rather than the largest theoretical device specification.
The better purchase brief is “I want a comfortable way to be player two in this working session.” It is not “I need a handheld powerful enough to run every game on my friend's computer.” Those statements lead to very different spending decisions.

Host, guest and game mode have separate jobs
| Part | Its job in the decision | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| The host computer | Owns and runs the supported game for the session. | That the guest receives a local PC installation. |
| The guest device | Receives streamed video/audio and supplies allowed input through a supported client. | That any Android device or built-in control layout works without checking. |
| The game's local mode | Determines the actual shared or competitive activity and player arrangement. | Independent accounts, saves or unrestricted online matchmaking. |
| The connection | Carries the session between the host and guest. | A fixed latency, resolution or reliable result on every network. |
Valve describes Remote Play Together as a way to share supported local-multiplayer games over the internet. Its Invite Anyone announcement describes invitations through Steam or the Steam Link app, including Android. That platform-level route is real; current compatibility on the exact Pocket 2S unit still needs its own evidence.
An invitation is different from pairing with your own PC
A guest link says that someone is inviting you to a game on their computer. Ordinary personal streaming setup instead connects your client to a computer you intend to use as your own host. Do not follow a personal-host pairing procedure and assume it has automatically joined the friend's multiplayer session.
Likewise, receiving a video stream is not proof that the game has registered a second human player. You can see the shared game while still lacking the correct input permission, controller assignment or supported mode. Check those separately before deciding that you need different hardware.
Use the current Steam client and Steam Link instructions for the actual devices. This guide intentionally does not invent a universal sequence of menu buttons, version numbers or account screens.
Do both people need to buy the game?
For the supported Remote Play Together mechanism, Valve says one player owns and runs the game. This can avoid treating a guest session as two separate installations. It does not mean every Steam title supports the feature, every game mode accepts the desired number of people or every other service follows the same rule.
If you want to play independently when the host is unavailable, assess that as a different requirement. A guest invitation does not establish a permanent entitlement, an offline copy or the ability to continue the host's campaign on your own device.
No PC game, Steam account, subscription, host computer or configured guest service is included merely because you order a Pocket 2S. Establish the wanted software arrangement before comparing shell colors.
Prove “player two,” not just “I can see it”
The meaningful trial goes beyond opening a link. Enter the intended local mode, assign the relevant inputs and check that each person can perform their own role. If both players move the same character, or one player is stuck at a menu, the purchase-defining task is not yet established.
Valve's invitation announcement distinguishes a guest's own controller from keyboard/mouse sharing. Shared input is not automatically a second independent keyboard or a game-specific second controller. The title's own input model remains important.
Try the actual commands that decide enjoyment: movement plus an action, a shoulder command if required, menu confirmation and a normal pause. A controller recognized by the app can still leave a specific in-game action incorrectly assigned. Resolve the observed mapping rather than buying a larger storage tier as a guess.
Test the phone you already have before paying for another screen
An existing compatible phone and suitable controller can answer the biggest question: do you enjoy this game through this friend's hosted session? It also reveals whether the real friction is setup, connection, input assignment or the way the game appears on a small screen.
If that arrangement already feels right, keeping it is a legitimate recommendation. A dedicated handheld is more appealing when attaching a controller is inconvenient, you want a separate gaming device or the integrated layout suits the actual actions better. Those are ownership benefits, not automatic improvements in the stream.
If the trial fails, identify what failed. A host-side problem or an unsuitable internet path is not fixed merely by replacing the guest's phone with a more expensive handheld. Conversely, a workable session with awkward controls can justify investigating a better physical format.
Where Pocket 2S belongs on the shortlist
Retroid's official model page lists Android 11, a 3.5-inch 4:3 touchscreen at 640×480, analogue L2/R2 and Hall sticks, with 3+32GB and 4+128GB configurations. These are manufacturer-advertised model facts, not measurements of this store's present stock or a Steam Link compatibility certificate.
The current shop offer has its own exact selectors and prices. Its description appropriately leaves current software, controls and storage interpretation subject to selected-unit confirmation. Establish that the current compatible Steam Link app can be installed and that the built-in controls work in your real guest session before relying on this model for that purpose.
That puts Pocket 2S in a useful but conditional role: a device to evaluate for integrated controls after the software route is understood. This guide does not rank it above every phone, larger handheld or PC client, and does not claim that more RAM is necessary for receiving a particular stream.

The same shared game still has to fit the display
A streamed local session retains the game's shared view or split-screen arrangement. A second device does not automatically give every player an independently composed full-screen camera. Ask what the actual mode displays before choosing a compact client.
Retroid advertises a 4:3 panel for Pocket 2S. If a 16:9 picture is fitted inside a 4:3 viewport without cropping or stretching, the picture uses three quarters of the viewport's height. This is an aspect-ratio calculation, not a capture of the app's real output or a readability measurement.
Check the elements you need during play: the second player's marker, a shared map, an item label or each split-screen area. An image can be technically visible yet inconvenient for a particular task. Keep the full image when evaluating those cues; filling the panel by stretching or cropping is not a free gain in useful information.
If those elements are uncomfortable on a compact screen, keep the larger working client or investigate a genuinely suitable larger view. More local storage does not enlarge the game's text or repair its camera composition.
The exact offer: five finishes, two labels
| Current Color selector | 3G 32G, USD | 4G 128G, USD | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black | $529.99 | $619.99 | $90 |
| Metal | $529.99 | $619.99 | $90 |
| 16Bit | $529.99 | $619.99 | $90 |
| Clear green | $529.99 | $619.99 | $90 |
| Clear black | $529.99 | $619.99 | $90 |
All ten configurations returned available in the October 31 record. These are this specific offer's USD base prices, not a claim that it is the least expensive Pocket 2S listing or the final delivered total. Recheck the selected variant, checkout charges and availability before payment.
“Metal” is the exact Color label, not independent material certification. The reference images show different finishes; a photographed finish does not establish that every pictured detail matches each selected configuration.
The two Bundle labels change more than one number. Confirm actual physical memory, usable internal storage and any removable media on the selected unit. Neither label itemizes a case, power adapter, game card or configured Steam Link installation.
Spend for a solved problem, not a larger number.
The $90 tier step is not an established streaming-performance upgrade. For a guest-session purchase, first establish app compatibility, the connection, usable controls and the shared view. Consider the higher label only for a separately identified, verified memory or storage need.

A connection trial should resemble your real evening
A quick successful menu on the same local network is not the same observation as playing from your friend's home over the internet. Test with the intended host, guest location and ordinary connection where practical. Keep any outcome attached to that situation rather than converting it into a universal speed claim.
Observe whether controls remain useful during meaningful action, whether the picture stays readable and whether interruptions make the session frustrating. Audio that arrives late or becomes hard to follow can matter even when the picture looks acceptable. No fixed latency, bandwidth requirement or promised frame rate is supplied here.
Change one understood factor at a time when investigating a problem. Record the app, device, host and actual symptom. Avoid exposing accounts, forwarding arbitrary ports, disabling security features or installing unofficial apps merely to make a buying trial appear successful.
Who owns the evening's progress?
The game is running on the host. Decide who will host the next session and how that game records progress before building a long cooperative routine around the invitation. Do not assume that disconnecting creates a complete independent guest campaign.
A game's account, achievements, save ownership and session rejoining can differ. Check the exact title's supported behavior where it matters; this guide certifies none of those details for a named game. For a casual round, that may be a minor issue. For a continuing adventure, it can change whether this playing arrangement fits at all.
If the host is unavailable, a different local or native online arrangement may be the correct alternative. That is a software and ownership decision, not a reason to promise that a higher-capacity guest device solves it.
Three buying scenarios
The occasional invited guest
Your existing phone and controller already join successfully and the view is usable. Keep them. A new dedicated device is optional rather than necessary for receiving the invitation.
The regular co-op partner
The hosted session works, but attaching controls or giving up your phone is inconvenient. Evaluate Pocket 2S only after its present app and built-in mapping pass the same actual task. Buy for the wanted integrated routine.
The independent traveler
You need the game when the host or connection is unavailable. Resolve a documented local-playing option or another suitable game instead. Do not buy a guest client expecting it to become an offline PC.
These examples are decision scenarios, not customer testimonials or recorded device tests.
A useful pre-purchase request
Ask for evidence of the task, not a montage of unrelated games: “I want to join a friend's supported Steam Remote Play Together session with this exact Pocket 2S configuration. Can the current compatible Steam Link app be installed, and can the built-in controls register as my intended player in the actual local mode? Please distinguish a completed guest-session check from merely opening an app or showing another streaming service.”
Separately confirm the selected shell, installed system, memory/storage and itemized box contents. A real setup trial can be useful without revealing anyone's password, account recovery information or private invitation publicly.
If no relevant trial is available, keep the model conditional. You can still use the existing working client and postpone the dedicated-device decision without losing the original invitation's appeal.
Six steps before buying a guest handheld
- Name the exact game and the local multiplayer mode you want to share.
- Check its current Remote Play Together support and the host's ability to run it.
- Join using the current supported guest route on an existing compatible client.
- Verify separate player input and the actual shared or split-screen view during meaningful play.
- Identify the remaining physical-device problem, if any, and test the proposed replacement against it.
- Only then choose the exact configuration, contents and total cost. Keep the working setup if no purchase is needed.
Remote-co-op buying questions
Can an Android guest join Remote Play Together?
Valve documents an Android Steam Link guest route. Check current app requirements and the actual unit; this is not certification of every Android handheld.
Do I have to buy another copy for this guest session?
Valve describes the supported mechanism as one player owning and running the game. Independent play or another mode can have different requirements.
Does the handheld run the PC game locally?
Not in this arrangement. The host runs it, while the guest receives the streamed session and returns allowed controls.
Is seeing the game proof that I am player two?
No. Check the actual local mode, input assignment and meaningful independent actions.
Will Pocket 2S definitely work with Steam Link?
No exact-unit guest-session result was obtained for this guide. Its advertised Android environment makes it a candidate to investigate, not a guaranteed solution.
Should I pay $90 for the higher Bundle label?
Only for a separately confirmed memory or storage need. The label does not establish improved stream quality or solve a host-side problem.
Will each person get a separate full-screen camera?
Not automatically. The game's actual local mode determines its shared or split-screen presentation.
Can I continue offline after the host leaves?
The guest session does not establish an offline copy or an independent campaign. Resolve another documented playing route if that is essential.
Does a pictured game or box prove what ships?
No. Confirm the selected configuration and itemized contents separately. The reference photos are not a supplied-game manifest.
What is the lowest-risk first action?
Try the intended invitation on an existing compatible client with suitable controls. Buy new hardware only when it solves a remaining verified need.

If you are streaming from your own computer rather than joining a friend, the personal PC-streaming and offline-travel guide addresses that different ownership question. It is not proof that every client uses the same app or supports this guest route.
If two people are taking turns on one locally used handheld instead, the shared-device and separate-save guide addresses preserving their progress. Turn-taking is not the same task as joining one live hosted multiplayer session.

A good invitation does not have to become a hardware purchase.
Start with the game and friend you want to play with. Prove the guest route and player controls using what you have. Then choose a dedicated handheld only for a physical benefit you genuinely want and can validate.
If Pocket 2S remains on that shortlist, check the exact current offer rather than assuming that its name, larger memory label or reference screen promises the whole experience.
