R36S Setup Guide
First Use, Games and Software Checks
Use this guide to understand first startup, storage, saving, software changes and common checks. Follow the instructions for your exact device and installed build. This is not a fixed-time setup promise, a measured laboratory report or proof of every optional feature.

Tell support your order number, exact device and installed software. This webpage does not establish an available PDF download or a universal firmware package.
What's In This Guide
Unboxing & First Power-On
Compare the device and included items with your selected order. Before charging, identify the documented charging port, compatible cable and power source. Follow the supplied model instructions; this guide does not establish a universal charging duration or indicator-light behavior. If the device is damaged, swollen or unusually hot, stop using or charging it and contact support.
Use the power button as described for your exact device. Do not assume a fixed hold time, boot logo or startup duration from another model. Avoid repeated forced power cycles. If startup fails, note any screen or indicator behavior and use the troubleshooting checks below rather than formatting a card or opening the enclosure.
Follow the on-screen prompts and supplied instructions. Menu labels, language options and first-boot behavior depend on the installed software. Confirm how to select a game, return to the menu, save progress and shut down normally. A supplied library does not eliminate the need to learn these controls.
Firmware Identification & Update Decisions
Use the actual system information or supplied instructions to record the installed software and version. Photograph the information when available. Do not assume a Settings → About path exists on every build. Device identity and display revision can matter when selecting a compatible software image.
Do not update a working device simply because a newer-looking version exists. Identify the problem or feature you want to address, then check the exact build's compatibility and release documentation. A version number alone is not proof that an update is necessary, safe or unnecessary. Record current settings before changes.
Back up important saves and storage before changing software. Keep the original working card intact when using a separate compatible card. Confirm that the image and procedure match your exact hardware before any write operation. This guide does not prescribe a generic latest image or a universal flashing method. Ask support if the build or device revision is uncertain.
Adding Games and Protecting Storage
Formats, archives, BIOS requirements and directory names depend on the emulator and installed build. Use the relevant instructions instead of assuming every .zip, .7z, disc image or unfamiliar extension works. File compatibility is separate from permissions to use game or firmware content; this guide does not certify those permissions.
Shut down normally before removing a storage card. Identify the card and game partition, connect it with a suitable reader, and back up important data. Do not accept a computer's format prompt merely because a partition is unreadable. Add permitted, compatible files to the configured directory without overwriting system files or existing saves.
Safely eject the card from the computer, reinsert it into the powered-off device, then start normally. Use the build's documented library refresh procedure if required. Refresh time and menu labels vary. If a file remains missing, check directory, format and metadata before changing firmware.
| System | Directory Check | File Examples | What to Confirm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Game Boy Advance | Configured GBA directory | .gba | Installed emulator, archive support if used, title behavior |
| SNES | Configured SNES directory | .sfc, .smc | Core/version and game-specific compatibility |
| NES | Configured NES directory | .nes | File integrity and the selected emulator |
| PlayStation 1 | Configured PlayStation directory | .bin with matching .cue where required | Disc references, supported format and emulator firmware requirements |
| Game Boy Color | Configured GBC directory | .gbc | Emulator support and actual saving behavior |
| Sega Genesis | Configured Genesis directory | .md, .smd where supported | Selected emulator's accepted formats and title compatibility |
Checking Emulator Settings
Record the actual emulator and settings before changing them. Check display scaling separately from gameplay speed, and use the emulator's title-specific documentation for clock features where relevant. Do not apply universal 3× scaling, audio rates or frame-skip values. A 240 × 160 image at 3× is 720 × 480, too wide to fit uncropped on a 640 × 480 display.
Confirm which emulator is selected and its requirements for disc files and firmware. Do not assume enhanced rendering, a particular core or disabling a recompiler is appropriate for every game. Use a known working configuration as the baseline, change one documented option at a time, and retain a way to restore it.
Different emulator builds and games can behave differently. Compare the title's normal behavior, controls, sound and save support before applying filters or changing settings. A fixed scaling factor or an audio toggle is not a universal quality improvement. Keep in-game saves and suitable backups when experimenting.
Saving, Display and Optional Features
Check the configured save/load procedure, slot and emulator support. Save states differ from the game's own saving system and may not transfer between versions or cores. This guide does not prescribe universal L2 shortcuts or guarantee saving anywhere in every emulator. Test an understood procedure in a short practice session.
Use the display menu or documented shortcut for the installed build. Choose a readable, comfortable setting. This guide does not establish a universal MENU/volume combination, a fixed number of brightness levels or a measured percentage increase in runtime.
Network-dependent features require compatible hardware, software and game support. Wireless capability and achievement integration are not confirmed for this selected R36S offer by this guide. Do not assume a menu or software name proves connectivity; confirm the exact setup before following account or network instructions.
A USB-C connector alone does not prove video output. R36S TV output is not confirmed for this offer, and an ordinary USB-C-to-HDMI adapter is not established as compatible. Ask about the exact device, output method and accessories before buying for a TV setup. No 1080p or all-display guarantee is made here.
Brightness, workload, volume, settings, connectivity and battery condition can affect runtime. This guide does not establish measured playing hours, named performance modes or a doubling of battery life. Use compatible charging equipment as documented, and stop use if there is damage, swelling, unusual heat or odor.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
| Problem | Possible Checks, Not a Diagnosis | Next Safe Step |
|---|---|---|
| Screen will not turn on | Documented charging setup, power procedure and storage seating | Use the model instructions; note indicators and screen behavior. Do not format, flash or open the device as a first step. Ask support if unresolved. |
| Game runs slowly | Specific title, emulator, changed settings or an optional effect | Record the configuration; restore a known working setting if available and change one documented option at a time. No universal resolution fix is promised. |
| No sound in game | Device volume, mute state and whether the issue affects other games | Check ordinary sound controls first. Consult the configured emulator before changing audio options. |
| Game missing from library | Correct card, configured directory, file format and refresh procedure | Back up before file changes; verify the actual build's instructions rather than inventing a folder or menu path. |
| Controls do not respond as expected | Button mapping, whether the issue is game-specific, and physical damage | Compare menu and game behavior. Do not treat a stick deadzone value as a universal fix for buttons; document the issue for support. |
| Network feature does not connect | Whether the exact hardware and software support the requested connection | Confirm capability first. This guide does not establish built-in R36S WiFi, a required band or compatible accessories. |
